How much does a House Painting Job in Los Angeles Cost?

Painting is one of those jobs that the more frugal folks would like to do it themselves. The task seems as simple as mixing colors and applying paint on the wall. And, for the thrifty ones who do things themselves, they do save quite a sum.

However, painting has progressed from the past.  These days, painters are not just individuals    but are now companies with a general manager, cost estimator, foremen and, of course, the painters.   This development has resulted in more professional paint jobs than those done by individual painters.  Especially if you live in Los Angeles where you live a stone’s throw away from celebrities, you have to give your painting jobs to professionals.  So, many home owners choose to hire a house painting company to do the job for them.   But having said that, here’s a caveat:  Yes, hiring a home painting company will set you back a few hundred dollars at least – and perhaps even thousands more. The question is:  Is it worth it?

Painting cost estimates involves pricing for the interior and exterior of the house.  The estimate for the interior is generally lower than that for the exterior.  It should be since the interior paint job is relatively simpler than doing the exteriors.  Interior painting involves the walls inside the house, while exterior painting covers the exterior patios and other adornments of the house on the outside.  In fact, people who would like to paint their houses by themselves wouldn’t dare make a “DIY” (do-it-yourself) job with the exteriors.

In Los Angeles, an interior house painter’s cost ranges from a low of $1,000 to as high as $10,000.  The median cost is around $5,000.  Based on the median cost, Los Angeles interior painting jobs are higher than the national average of $2,000.  For exterior painting jobs, Los Angeles painters may price it closer to the national average.  The range of exterior paint jobs in Los Angeles is from $3,000 to $6,000 (with more elaborate and bigger exterior painting jobs costing as much as $12,000).  The U.S. average is just a little less than $3,000.

The wide range in painting costs can be accounted for by the wide range in sizes and requirements of different clients’ houses.  That is why paint estimates are also reduced to a per square foot computation.  Nevertheless, the figures mentioned above can give you a ballpark figure of the range of house painting costs.   The estimates already include the cost of paint and equipment.  In fact, the general rule of thumb is that the painter’s labor cost is basically 75% to 85% of the entire quotation with paint and other supplies accounting for the rest.   So, if you were to look at the figures above, the range for an interior painter’s labor cost will be from $750 to $7,500.  For exteriors, the range would be from $2,250 to $4,500.

Given the labor charge, you are actually paying for your peace of mind.  For quite a small sum, you are paying for a very professional paint rendition of your house.  It’s actually a bargain. For more information call us or visit our homepage here.
